Scandia Mayor Christine Maefsky presented a Good Neighbor Award Proclamation to local resident Gabriel Poyerd at the September 21, 2021 City Council meeting.
Gabriel was nominated by Jacqueline and James Hillman, for recognition of young Gabriel’s heroic efforts in locating their missing granddaughter this past June 15th. Gabriel and his mom joined the intense search efforts being conducted by multiple agencies that evening. Gabriel followed a deer trail through the woods to a swampy area where the young girl was caught in the muddy ground and unable to move. Gabriel alerted the authorities and she was safely rescued in the critical time before dark. Washington County Sheriff Dan Starry was in attendance to present Gabriel with a Citizen Lifesaving Award, and County Commissioner Fran Miron extended his appreciation to Gabriel for his heroic actions that evening.
Please join us in our appreciation and gratitude to Gabriel for his many qualities of being a Scandia Good Neighbor.
