Learn to Skate: K-6th Grade
The six-week Learn to Skate program by coaches, Maggie Gerty & Ellie Krueger, teaches children of different abilities recreational and hockey skating skills.
- Learn to Skate Beginners can stand on their own in skates but have little or infrequent skating experience. Beginners learn techniques to fall safely, forward march and forward skate, 2-foot and 1-foot glides, forward swizzles & crossovers, backward wiggle & swizzles and 2-foot snowplow stop.
- Learn to Skate Advanced students work on backward stroking, back crossovers, t-stops and/or hockey stops, and mohawks.
- Hockey Skills students work on powerful stroking, cross-overs, fast turns, stops and edge control. Sticks are encouraged but not required. Helmets are required but face cages are not necessary – bike helmets will suffice.
