Building permits are required for new buildings and most structural changes to existing buildings. Building and related permits ensure that your project will be constructed according to nationally recognized standards. The standards are designed to protect homes from collapse and fire. Review of permit applications also ensures that your home meets zoning requirements, such as yard coverage, setbacks and building height.

The City of Scandia has an agreement with the City of Hugo for building inspection services.

Permit Applications:	Applications will be submitted to the Scandia City Office, 14727 209th Street N. on forms provided by the City of Scandia. Click here to select a permit to download. Applications may also be submitted by email, mail@ci.scandia.mn.us, and FAX (651-433-5112)

Plan Reviews:	Building Code related plan reviews will be conducted by Hugo staff. Zoning and other local ordinance plan reviews will be conducted by Scandia staff.

Inspection Requests:	Inspection requests will be made to the City of Hugo by calling 651.762.6300. The Building Inspection Department requires 24-hour advance notice for all inspections. Inspections must be made through office staff. Inspections will typically be scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays.

General Questions:	Building Code questions should be directed to Hugo staff at 651.762.6300. Other questions should be directed to Scandia staff at 651.433.2274.

Electrical Permits and Inspections:	Electrical permits are issued by the City of Scandia. Joseph Wheaton provides inspections. Phone: 612-866-3784
